A BARE BEGINNING
It was an evening of mid June in the city of joy(Kolkata). The results of the country's general elections were out.The ruling left front was routed in the elections by the Trinamool congress and the Indian National Congress alliance in the state led by Trinamool stalwarth Mamta Banerjee with a bit of help from the immediate cause of Singur and Nandigram, leaving behind a poll tally of 26 to 14.An overjoyed UPA supporters roared near the Presidency college and Calcutta University campus with crackers and colours. As I walked down college street I could feel that even the atmosphere was finding it dificult to accept the change after a long gap of 30 years. The summer sun was playing hide and seek making the evening gloomy, as the met department predicted a cyclone coming from the Bay of Bengal in the next two to three days.As I passed through narrow alleys of college street ,it looked as if a curfew had gripped Kolkata as people were fearing to step out of their homes realising a post electoral clash.A cow standing in the middle of the lane also seemed to be tensed with poll result since it was also a part of politically over conscious Bengal. In the meantime as forecasted rains began to lash Kolkata and I took shelter beneath a curnish of a buildling.I waited for the rain to recede and began to look at the surroundings. The cow was standing helplessly in the rain and it looked like as if it was trying to accept the political scenario of Bengal. As the dusk set, darkness poured in ,leaving a sense of despair. The street lamps lit in a while and the downpour stopped.A ray of hope aroused in my mind with the lighting of street lamps, that the rain has washed away the political imbalance from Bengal and a much needed change was welcomed..........................................................................................................................................
